I've never been a big pop drinker, but I used to enjoy it from time to time at restaurants or movies. However, once I started educating myself on exactly what was in the food I was consuming, pop was one of the first things to go. The amount of sugar in one can of pop is staggering - 39 grams!! That is almost 8 teaspoons of sugar. That fact alone was enough to make me never want to drink pop again, but also learning that consuming it is linked to conditions including diabetes, obesity, heart disease, stroke and depression made the decision an easy one.
These days, I drink a ton of water. Sometimes though, I just crave a different flavor. So I started playing around with different flavored waters and came up with this gem! I make a big batch of the "syrup" and store it in the fridge. Then, anytime I feel like a glass, I just pour a bit into some plain or sparkling water!
Key Ingredient Benefits
Ginger: great for treating nausea, improving digestion, reducing inflammation and pain
Raw Honey: antioxidant, anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and nature's best source of living enzymes (important for digestion and metabolism!)
Here's the recipe:
1. Add all ingredients to a small saucepan, and bring to a boil
2. Turn the heat down to low and allow to simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occassionally
3. Strain through a mesh sieve into a mason jar and allow to cool on the counter top before storing in the refrigerator
To serve, add 4-5 tbsp. of syrup into a glass of plain or sparkling water, with ice and a lime wedge! You can add more of the syrup depending how much water is in your glass, and how much flavor you want.
